9th July Free day in Melrose

Going to rain today so had a sleep in and gave Annette the dry towel for a change. Didn't start raining till 9.30 and then only misty rubbish. Looked around Melrose in the morning. This is the square. The shops had lots of hanging baskets and they looked great.

I went back to the pub to update the blog and after having lunch there Annette went off to visit a couple of gardens in town. A few drinks later she was back and said I hadn't done much. This was one of the gardens.

Whilst in the pub this pulled up outside and they started watering the hanging baskets.

Annette went out and spoke to them. Turns out that a group in town fund raise to put up hanging baskets each year. They then approach the local shops and get them to sponsor so much per basket and then the group put them up and look after them, hence the little water vehicle. The commercial area looked really pretty.

Must have pinched a couple more.

Look what I found behind the pub.

This is the hostel.

The stairs inside.

Off to Kelso tomorrow.
