15th July Off on the Dales Way.

Up and still light rain. All covered up and off to catch the bus to Ilkley to start the walk. Waiting at the bus station and told the bus not going, wipers wont work. Great. Now just 10am, left Annette with the pack and quick trip to the info centre and plan formed. Back to Annette in time to catch another bus to Embasy and maybe just enough time to catch a steam train from there to Bolton Abbey. Bus driver said he would drop us off right at the station gates which he did. Train just about to leave and held  up for us to buy tickets and get on. Nice old train and now light rain. Not looking good.

Got to Bolton Abbey station and had a hot chocolate and waited to get a photo of the train leaving. Not to be. Raining too much to leave the cafe to get the photo.

Back on with all the wet weather gear.

Walked to Bolton Prioy but too late in the day to pay it a visit so had a look as we walked past. Ice cream van set up so another liquid lunch.

Another old house that took my fancy.

Found this along the trail. Old fashion wood turners site. You can see the water on the plastic sheet.

Part of the track but most of it had been good.

Very humid and stopped for a rest and to dry out the coats and ourselves. You can see what I mean by Annette's back.

Another lovely old bridge across the river.

View up the valley

This walking bridge Annette just manages to get the pack through. I got stuck leaving the bridge.

Row of old mills, now houses.

Arrived at Grassington and asked directions to the caravan park from a lady walking her dog. Walked past town and just having a breather when the same lady drove past and stopped saying that she had been looking for us. Apparently caravan park she directed us to doesn't take tents so she offered to drive us to the other one. In we get and off to the other park and stopped out side a row of old houses. No caravan park in sight. Out of car and knocked on a cottage door and sure enough we were at the right spot. Back to the car laughing and told Annette and the good lady that we were in for a treat here if the lady I spoke to was anything to go by. She reminded me of some of the very old German ladies at home. Thanked the lady and went out into the back yard and pitched the tent with one other and two camper vans and the tractor. Very very basic. Rained during the night and I had another bad night with the cold.
