11th June. Great Glen Way

We were worried that there were going to be millions of midges about this morning but the wind go up around the same time we did and it was pretty good. Found that the tent wasn't as dry as we thought and parts were a little bit moldy. Today we walked from our wild camp on the shore of Lock Locky to the town of Fort Augustus. It was another long hard day. We were going to wild camp when we got to Lock Oich and make it two short easy days but one thing led to another and the thought of a warm bed and a hot shower slowly won over the sore feet and knees and we just kept going. Told ourselves off but when we arrived at Fort Agustus we found it had some lovely old buildings and as we are now one day ahead of our booked accommodation we can spend all day tomorrow exploring it.

The walk was easy as far as up and down goes as most of it was along the lochs or the Caledonian Canal. Some pretty views and I did manage to see a red deer. Not many other people on the trail and we had it pretty much to ourselves. A lot of hard flat gravel road surfaces which I find hard on my feet. Annette was most impressed as the boys (Could be girls) kept flying down along the lochs. A couple of times they came straight overhead and very close.

We were talking to this gent and found out he was in the force so to speak and had his father's handcuffs with him. He said he uses them to lock his bike to something when he has to go off and leave it. Brilliant idea, should have brought mine. (Trust Annette to find someone with handcuffs.)

Very nice boat looking sad next to the ruins of Invergarry Castle.

I think if you zoom in you may see one of the planes in this photo.

Another bridge.

Don't let anyone tell you that the wind doesn't blow up the loch.

Stayed at the Stravaiger Lodge. Clean and basic but good.
