8th and 9th of June. Last day of the West Highland Way.

Got buzzed by a jet fighters last night in the hostel. They came down the valley from behind the town and were gone before we knew what they were. Very noisy, very low and very quick. Annette found them to be very exciting and they were. Off away the next morning this being our last day and a long walk.
The first part of the walk was along an old military road with spectacular views. It had varied terrain and went past Britain's highest mountain Ben Nevis. Looking back towards Loch Leven.

Again out in the middle of nowhere high up. Would you believe that just further along is the ruins of a farm house and outbuildings. Judging by the old machinery it must have been used with in the last 100 years.

Here is the Cain of rocks that marks the are that the MacDonalds gave up the pursuit of the remaining Campbells after the battle of Inverlochy. Tradition has it that the MacDonalds supporters add a rock and the Campbell one remove a rock from the pile. I got to take the biggest rock way down the track. I did offer to set up the tent so she could dismantle the whole pile.

We walked through some beautiful pine forests. Reminded me of Little Red Ridding Hood. Very spooky in places

Finally got to Ben Nevis covered in cloud, as it is most of the year.

Stayed in Fort William tonight and again the following night. Didn’t really do much except have a recovery day working out what we were going to do next. Here is the view from the hostel. More north and it never gets truly dark of a night.

The first night we asked the lady at the hostel where we could get a pub meal and she told us to try the steak and eel pie at the the Flying Pig Inn (I think). Anyway off we went and tried to order it and had the barman in stitches as it was steak and ale pie not eel. She had a pretty broad accent or that’s our excuse. She was in stitches when we told her. I think we will be remembered.
