3rd June, Bus around London and vist to the Tower.

Very little sleep in the hostel. One of the blokes in the room hadn't washed for a while and smelt a bit, why I don't know as the room had an en suite. Honestly I thought I was stuck in the interview room back at work. (My workmates will know what I mean) Others snored, or maybe I could hear myself. Anyway it wasn't a good night. Decided to do the tourist thing and catch a bus (keeping a good eye out for loose backpacks that might go bang).

In London and on the bus.

Bugger, we could have just pitched the tent here. Protest in the centre of the city regarding British serving overseas. I know what I'd do with them all. Ship them across to live with the locals over there for a while to get their side of things.

Off seeing the sights. Some big important building in London.

Blimey, something just big.

Lovely old buildings.

Statutes everywhere.

To the tower of London. This one taken inside one of the many towers. The whole place has been built onto over the years and was all over the place but well worth a look.

 Another view of the place.

This is the section where the Queen stays if  she missed the last bus or something????

We had to rush a bit to catch the last bus back. London didn't really make a good impression. Not what we really thought it would have been like and thinking about it we realised it didn't look old enough. This was because most of the building dated after the second world war. Decided we would leave and catch a train up to Scotland as this is where we should have been weeks ago before the midges get really bad. Booked a ticket on the Internet for overnight train travel to Glasgow leaving about 10.30 pm. You may ask why that time of night? Well train travel unless booked weeks in advance appears to cost hundreds of pounds to go anywhere unless you are prepared to travel very early or very late. So dinner at a local pub, packs collected and off to the train station. Scotland awaits.

Ok, someone didn't check the Internet booking for change of trains at Crewe very well. Got there after a couple of hours and went to change trains and realised that our next train wasn't due until about 6 am. About a 5 to 6 hour wait!!!!!! Station and town closed down for the night. Lucky the waiting room was open so with a few other passengers in the same boat it was make the best of it. We shared a section of bench until it became too much then we took turns trying to sleep. This is Annette's turn.

One thing we did discover was that it was light about 4am in the morning, or some silly time. Arrived in Glasgow about 9.30am, tired and grumpy. What country we did see from the train looked pretty.
