Light rain and caught the bus to Kelso and had to swap to a small mini bus half way. Had a good chat to the driver. Arrived to find a large motor cycle event on at the show grounds and the town full of leather and tattoos.Very busy. Visited the Abbey ruins.
They thought of everything back then.
A section had been rebuilt.
It was right in the middle of the town.
Annette realised that she had left her hat on the bus. Oh well have to buy another one I guess. A quick visit to the Info shop and the lady asked us if we were the Australians that took the bus to town this morning cause the bus driver had found Annette's hat and remembered that we were going to visit the info centre and had dropped it off. How's that for service. View of the main street.
Off to visit an old house, actually Floors Castle. Only a few miles the opposite way. Huge old place and a lot of the stone starting to wear away.
They had this magnificent beech tree in the garden.
View of most of the rear/front of the house. I said it was big.
Back into town and water bottles filled and off on the Abbey Way proper. Very late start and had lunch just out of town. The same bus driver pulled up to see if we had gotten the hat back. This was part of the original old castle that was on the outskirts of town.
Off along the river.
Along a few tracks and had to wait out a few showers of rain. Got into Jebough late, about 8.30pm and into the caravan park. Now raining and had to put up the tent.
I had started to lose my voice and getting wet didn't help. No tokens for the dryer so folded all the wet gear in the tent and I was off to bed without a shower, tired and sore. Been another hard days walk for both of us along a pretty river. Sometimes even I wonder what are we doing? Annette wonders all the time.
