14th July Off to Carlisle.

Raining today and woke later than we should have. Had a bad night with the cold. Rush to catch the bus up on the highway and saw it drive past. Back to the hostel to wait for the next one. No real problem just less time to explore.Carlisle.

Back to catch the second bus and look what they had done to the bus stop. Annette doing a bit of a jig getting ready to flag the bus done. Got no idea how or if it will stop with the heavy traffic and rain.

Bus stopped for us and off to Carlisle. Went through Brampton. Looked like a pretty place to visit. Arrived in Carlisle and had a look around the centre shopping area. A large section turned into a mall and so had the streets leading into it. Very nice and busy. Purchased a map for the Dales Way and lunch and a rush to the train station to catch the train to Skipton with seconds to spare. Travelled along the Carlisle-Settle railway line one of the most scenic routes in England. Lots of tunnels and viaducts. Pretty countryside. (I think the rail side trees have grown a bit). Arrived in Skipton to find a canal with boats. The first one we have seen up close.

No camping ground and threatening rain so lashed out and booked into a B and B. On the way started raining, not a good sign.

Old ware houses turned into apartments.

After settling in the B and B went for a walk and had a meal at one of the many pubs and purchased supplies.

Back to B and B and heard rain during the night.
