No midges. You don't know how good that is. Sea very calm for a very long way out. Decided to say here another night so caught the bus in Buckie and no luck getting the glasses fixed. Aberdeen on Monday best bet. Off on the bus to Portsoy to have a look at the Scottish Traditional Boat Festival 2010. Had to travel through a few villages to get there and they were just like you see in the books, surprise, surprise. Arrived and found the festival to be very much like Port Fairy Folk Festival in a lot of ways. Staged in and around the old harbour. Watched the boats go in and out and climbed aboard a couple of the bigger ones for a look under the decks. Not very much room at all.
Interesting rock work on the harbour walls.
One of the very first boats made of animal skins and sticks.
This beats an eight. Thought I heard the bloke on the load speaker say this boat was seized from the French. it the sort of boat they rowed the big wigs in and when you get it out a bit you can rig up the masts and sails and off you go. Sure enough, that's just what they did.
Had seen enough by 1.30 ish as we didn't really have a clue what was actually happening so back on the bus to visit a town further on that we had circled on the map. Arrived at Banff and visited Duff House. It is an historic home full of paintings and fine furnishings and has been restored back to its glory days. Worth a visit for the paintings alone.
Back to Buckie and more supplies obtained and to caravan park for dinner. Weather typical Scottish. Cold, hot, nice, overcast, sunny and two drops of rain. Bit like home. Booked accommodation for two night at SYHA Aberdeen so off on the bus tomorrow.
