2nd August Off on the Kennet and Avon Canel walk to

Up early and off again on the number 5 bus. Now if you ever get to Bath take a trip on the number 5 bus. It doesn't take long to go out and get back into town and I promise you that it will be a whole new experience. Annette and I knew we came from a different country but I thought it was on the same planet. Every time someone got on we discovered a new species. Off along the canal which makes the Yarra River look pretty inviting to swim in.

One of the many pretty bridges along the way.

This narrow boat was just a bit out to the left, right or just "hey man". It looked good anyway.

I like the way they dispose of the old cars over here. Just park them next to the blackberries and hey presto in 12 months problem solved.

Here is where the canal got bridged over the river.

Very nice walking along this section.

A few pretty houses along the way.

Arrived in Bradford-on-Avon and looked at the old barn.

Great roof.

The town looked interesting and old like this place that was trying to fall over. Pity we didn't have time to spend a day there.

View over the bridge.

Hard walking along the gravel on the old tow path and getting late so checked at the info office and caught the next bus to Trowbridge then another to Devizes to stay at a caravan park near there. People really helpful and the bus driver stopped at the lane leading to the park to save us a long walk. And that was a double decker bus. When we got to the canal we said hello to a gent who advised us that there were two caravan parks in the area and the one behind the pub was cheaper. Decisions, decisions. Off to the pub, tent set up amongst the cute wee little rabbits and into the pub for light refreshments and dinner. Lovely old building. Disappointed with the canal walk in general and I'm glad we didn't organise a boat along here. Heaps of boats moored along the canal with people living in them. Where do they put their rubbish and toilet waste? Is that why the water is green enough to walk on?

  1. Hey Graeme, you're old enough to remember....wasn't the number 5 bus the one the Reg Varney drove in "On the Busses?"
